Mr Ian Pape has been involved in the NAS for 16 years, both as a competitor and a judge. He has been an active competitor over those years, so is able to see refereeing and judging from “both sides of the fence”. Some of his achievements are:

NAS National Championship Finalist (fighting)
NAS State Champion, Veterans (fighting)
WASO Champion, Team member WASO vs Other Countries
NAS – Level 4 Referee
NAS – QLD Technical Director
NAS National Trainer


Sensei Aussie (Ian) has been involved with martial arts for the past 35 years.

In 2003 he became a student of Shihan James Casey, Chairman of Kenshin-Kan International Karate. Kenshin-Kan International Karate was derived from Kyokushin Karate.

A dedicated student, Aussie trained 3 days a week for 4 years, obtaining his Sho-dan in 2007, Ni-dan in 2009, San-dan in 2011 and Yon-Dan in 2015

Aussie works very closely with Shihan Casey, running a full time dojo at Forest Lake 2 days a week and he continues to travel to the Gold Coast once a week to train at Honbu, Burleigh Heads RSL.
