The Tan's story…
 Proprietor of Tan's Martial Arts Supplies, Neng (Peter) Tan, was introduced to martial arts as a young boy growing up in Cambodia, beginning his training in Cambodian boxing age six. After his instructor died in the ring, Neng moved to judo, earning his 1st Dan Black-belt in 1966 and participating in Olympic selection tournaments.
After attaining his 2nd Dan in judo in 1969, Neng’s club was paid a visit by a Korean instructor who introduced him to taekwondo, and Neng began learning
this art as well, eventually working as an instructor.
In 1973, Neng was forced to escape Cambodia due to the civil war. He ended up in Australia in 1976 as a refugee, and began teaching martial arts in Melbourne.
In 1984, he opened his first shop, Tan’s Martial Arts, which has now grown
to be one of the best-known and most respected names in the Australian martial arts industry.
